Jenny Vergara, Feast Magazine contributing editor giving Maps Coffee some recognition as the best roaster in KC for 2015.
I know we have been quite busy these days making some big strides with our coffee business however it's nice to get some recognition for our efforts in this last year. All good things.
Thank Jenny for the love and here's to great coffee!
"So, we ran out of time this morning on KCUR 89.3 Central Standard Food Friday to discuss our individual picks for the BEST roasters, distilleries, breweries and wineries in 2015, so I would like to give them a shout-out here!
I suggested that 2015 was the year of the drink, because never before have we had so many craft beverages enter our drink scene this year and even extending into next year. We are not only drinking local in KC right now, we are producing local, which, in the end, is good for everyone.
So, without further delay . . .my picks:
BEST 2015 Roasterie - Maps Coffee Roasters is my pick for best roaster in Kansas City. Vincent Rodriguez quit his corporate job with Starbucks to open a wonderful bike shop called Velo + in old downtown Lenexa, but coffee would not leave him alone. So he purchased a Loring Falcon coffee roaster and began roasting coffee beans in the back of his bike shop for his customers to drink when they came in to look at bikes. Soon he was bagging the beans up and selling them to his customers, and Maps Coffee Roasters was born. He also plans to brew beer and make chocolate somewhere down the road, and he has worked on a collaboration beer with Boulevard Brewing Company and is having his coffee delivered in Shatto Home Delivery service. He does a wonderful light roast on almost all of his coffees, which makes them so smooth and mild in your cup, no bitter aftertaste. With so many roasters roasting dark blends, Maps stands out as a refreshing change of pace."
